About this piece
Vintage Chinatown San Francisco Spoon Ring – Towle Sterling Silver
This distinctive Chinatown San Francisco spoon ring has been handcrafted from an authentic vintage sterling silver souvenir spoon celebrating one of San Francisco’s most historic neighbourhoods. Originally produced by Towle Silversmiths of Newburyport, Massachusetts, the spoon carries the heritage of one of America’s most respected silver manufacturers, founded in 1882.
Carefully reshaped by hand, the original spoon has been transformed into a striking and comfortable sterling silver spoon ring that preserves the character and story of the original piece. The detailed souvenir design referencing San Francisco’s Chinatown district gives the ring a sense of place and cultural history, making it a meaningful piece for travellers, collectors and lovers of vintage silver.
The ring is stamped “Sterling” and bears the Towle maker’s mark, confirming its authenticity and quality. These original markings remain visible, connecting the finished ring to its earlier life as a finely crafted piece of American silverware.
Each spoon ring is individually formed, refined and polished in my Adelaide Hills studio, ensuring a smooth interior and a beautifully finished surface that highlights the details of the vintage design.
By repurposing antique silverware into jewellery, this ring celebrates both traditional silversmithing and sustainable craftsmanship, giving new life to historic silver while preserving its story.
Whether worn as a conversation piece or collected as part of a vintage silver collection, this San Francisco Chinatown spoon ring carries a beautiful blend of history, travel and artisan craftsmanship.
The Story of Spoon Rings
Spoon rings have a long and fascinating history dating back to the 17th century, when lovers would bend the handles of silver spoons into rings as tokens of affection. Today, vintage spoon rings are treasured for their connection to the past and their distinctive, sculptural beauty.
Each handmade spoon ring begins with an authentic vintage spoon, carefully reshaped and refined to preserve the original silver while creating a comfortable and wearable ring. Because every antique spoon carries its own pattern, age and markings, each ring becomes a truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.
At Silver Rose Jewellery in the Adelaide Hills, vintage spoons are thoughtfully transformed into wearable art using traditional silversmithing techniques. By repurposing historic silverware into sustainable spoon jewellery, these pieces honour the craftsmanship of the past while creating something new to be worn and enjoyed today.
